- Why convert minutes to decimal hours?
- Payroll systems multiply hours by a pay rate, so they need time as a decimal (7.5) rather than as hours and minutes (7:30). Converting avoids overpaying or underpaying.
- How do I convert 15 minutes to decimal?
- Divide the minutes by 60. 15 ÷ 60 = 0.25, so 15 minutes is 0.25 of an hour. 30 minutes is 0.5, and 45 minutes is 0.75.
- Is rounding a problem?
- Some minute values (like 20 → 0.333…) don't divide evenly, so payroll rounds them. Consistent rounding is fine; capturing exact clock times in the first place — as a scan does — keeps the rounding honest.
