For operators
You are an operator: the person who clocks in and out on the job. BriefQR replaces paper timesheets with a quick QR scan and a PIN. You only set up your phone once. After that, clocking in takes a few seconds, even with no signal.
Register your device (one time)
Your manager gives you a single-use PIN. Use it to bind this phone to you on the server. You will not need it again unless you get a new phone.
- Open your phone camera or the BriefQR web app and scan the QR code at your site.
- When asked, type the single-use PIN your manager gave you.
- Confirm. Your phone is now bound to your name. There is no shared login and no password to remember.
Tip: when the BriefQR page opens, choose Add to home screen if your browser offers it. That makes it open faster next time and lets it run as an installable app.
Clock in
- Scan the QR code at your location, or open the installed app.
- Tap Clock in.
- You are on the clock. The screen shows your start time.
That is it. A scan and a tap.
Clock out
- Scan the same QR code, or open the app.
- Tap Clock out.
- Your session is complete and saved.
Working offline
BriefQR works without a connection. Your session is built and stored on your phone, then it syncs to your manager later when you get signal.
- A clock-in is never blocked by poor signal.
- You can clock in, work a full shift, and clock out in a dead zone.
- When your phone reconnects, the session uploads on its own. You do not need to do anything.
What the location prompt means
If your manager set up a job location, your phone may check whether you appear to be on-site when you scan. This is soft GPS.
- It is a signal for your manager to review, nothing more.
- It never blocks your clock-in. Even if location looks off, you still clock in normally.
- It is not live tracking. BriefQR does not follow you around. It only notes whether a single clock-in looked on-site.
If your phone asks for location permission, allowing it gives a cleaner record. Declining does not stop you from clocking in.
Troubleshooting
The camera will not open or has no permission
- Open your phone settings, find your browser, and allow camera access.
- Or open the BriefQR app from your home screen and use the scan button there.
- As a fallback, ask your manager for the location link so you can clock in without the camera.
I have no signal in a dead zone
- Clock in and out as normal. Your session is saved on the phone.
- Keep the app or page from being force-closed if you can.
- It will sync by itself once you reach signal. Your times are not lost.
My scan does not do anything
- Make sure you are scanning the current code at your site. A printed code can be damaged or out of date; tell your manager if it looks worn.
- Close and reopen the app, then try again.
I lost my phone or got a new one
- Your old device stays bound until your manager clears it, so report a lost phone right away.
- Ask your manager to re-issue a single-use PIN.
- Register your new phone with the new PIN using the steps above.
Quick reference
- Register once with the PIN. Scan and tap to clock in. Scan and tap to clock out.
- Offline is fine. Sessions sync later.
- Location is a review signal, never a block.
If something is set up wrong, your manager handles it from the dashboard. See the manager guide or start with getting started.
