Buddy punching

Buddy punching is when one employee clocks in or out on behalf of an absent coworker, recording hours the coworker did not actually work.

Device binding

Device binding ties a user's credential to a specific physical device, so the credential only works from that device and cannot be used elsewhere.

Geofencing

Geofencing draws a virtual boundary around a real location and triggers an action (such as allowing or blocking a clock-in) when a device enters or leaves that boundary.

Offline-first

Offline-first is a design approach where an app works fully without a network connection and syncs data later, treating connectivity as an enhancement rather than a requirement.

Payroll export

Payroll export is the process of moving recorded work hours out of a time-tracking system into payroll or accounting software so people can be paid accurately.

Progressive web app

A progressive web app (PWA) is a website built to behave like a native app (installable, able to work offline, and usable on any device) without going through an app store.

Single-use PIN

A single-use PIN is a short numeric code tied to one person and one purpose, used to authenticate an action such as clocking in without a full password.

Time clock app

A time clock app is software that lets workers record when they start and stop work (replacing a punch card or paper sheet), usually on a phone, tablet, or kiosk.

Time theft

Time theft is when an employee is paid for time they did not actually work, whether through padded hours, long unrecorded breaks, or clocking in for someone else.

Timesheet

A timesheet is a record of the hours a worker spent on the job over a given period, used as the basis for paying them and often for billing clients.
